North Dakota has been working on its application to the Rural Health Transformation program, which could grant more than $500 million over five years to strengthen rural health care access and quality; Gov. Kelly Armstrong announced it has been submitted as of Wednesday, Nov. 5.
In a Wednesday news release, four initiatives were presented: expanding rural health workforce through residencies and training programs, promoting preventive care and healthy eating, improving local access to care through telehealth infrastructure, and creating a statewide health data hub.
Officials tackled this plan by first listening to residents; the state developed the plan based on input from over 1,200 survey responses and 300 participants at listening sessions. The program stems from the federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which appropriates $50 billion nationwide over five years.
Award decisions are expected by December 31st.
