North Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Jon Jensen to Step Down

North Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Jon Jensen announced Wednesday he will not seek another term as chief justice when his current term ends this year, though he’ll continue serving as a justice, according to reporting by of the North Dakota Monitor.

In his announcement, he did not say as to why he was stepping down. He said his priority as chief justice was growing resources for state district courts.

The chief justice position is selected by vote of the five Supreme Court justices and state district court judges. Jensen was originally appointed to the Supreme Court by former Governor Doug Burgum in 2017 and elected to a 10-year term in 2020.
