North Dakota residents enrolled in SNAP will begin receiving partial November benefits as early as Friday following a federal court order, the Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday evening.
The North Dakota Monitor’s reports roughly 28,000 North Dakota households on SNAP will receive benefits based on a federal formula. The federal court order prompted NDDHHS to fund the program at 65%, meaning some will receive reduced benefits and others none at all. A federal judge Thursday ordered full November funding, which could change the distribution formula pending new federal guidance.
The WIC program is now also fully funded federally for November, eliminating the need for North Dakota’s planned $600,000 state funding. Governor Kelly Armstrong previously allocated $915,000 to the Great Plains Food Bank to address food insecurity during the shutdown.
