The FAA is reducing flights nationwide starting Nov. 7th due to the government shutdown, which could affect Jamestown travelers through connecting flights. According to the FAA, A 4 percent reduction in operations took effect Friday, ramping up to 6 percent by Tuesday, November 11, 8 percent by November 13, and 10 percent by November 14.

Jamestown Regional Airport Director Katie Hemmer tells Inforum that while direct flights from Jamestown may remain unchanged, connecting flights through major hubs like Minneapolis or Chicago could be impacted. The airport maintains a contract with the Department of Transportation for 12 weekly flights to Denver that can only be reduced if the contract is broken.

Travel experts advise passengers to stay in contact with airlines about flight status and allow extra time at larger airports. Airlines must accommodate passengers if they cancel or delay flights, and travel insurance may cover lodging and rental cars.
