A judge has ordered a former Jamestown man to repay nearly $25,000 after a destructive house fire.

A Southeast District Court judge sentenced 56-year-old John Patrick Quinlan, now living in Kentucky, to pay the restitution following a 2024 fire that started at his Jamestown home and spread to a nearby property.

Investigators said the blaze began in Quinlan’s detached garage on 1st Street West and later damaged a neighbor’s garage.

He originally faced a felony charge of endangering by fire or explosion, but prosecutors reduced the charge as part of a plea deal.

Quinlan pleaded guilty to failing to control or report a dangerous fire, a Class A misdemeanor, and received a suspended jail sentence along with the $24,699 restitution order.
