The North Dakota Farmers Union donated $500,000 to the Great Plains Food Bank Wednesday to support its Harvesting Hope Campaign for a new statewide distribution center.

NDFU President Mark Watne said the contribution reflects the strength of the organization’s grassroots membership of family farmers and ranchers, according to the Jamestown Sun. The Jamestown-headquartered organization, the state’s largest general farm group, is a longtime food bank partner, recently donating 35,000 pounds of pork in September.

The Great Plains Food Bank is North Dakota’s only food bank and a Feeding America member, supporting nearly 200 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and feeding programs statewide.
