The USDA’s first Crop Progress report since the government reopened shows the national corn and soybean harvests running slightly behind normal, while winter wheat planting and emergence also trail historical averages.
Corn harvest sits at 91% complete, behind both last year and the five-year average. Soybean harvest is 95% complete, just slightly under typical progress. Winter wheat planting is 92% finished nationwide, with emergence at 79% and 45% of the crop rated good to excellent — slightly weaker than last year.
Weather will be the major storyline this week, as three storm systems move across the country, bringing significant rainfall, pockets of snow, and possible severe weather.
