Jamestown Dollars for Scholars has announced a new endowed scholarship honoring Ethan Igl, who passed away from cancer in September 2024 at age 19.

The Ethan Igl Memorial Scholarship will award $1,000 annually to a Jamestown High School or Jamestown-BJA senior pursuing post-secondary education in engineering, science, or music. His parents, Larry and Amy, presented a $20,000 check, with additional contributions from family, friends, and the community.

Ethan graduated from Jamestown High School in 2023 and was studying electrical engineering at Iowa State University when he died after an eight-month cancer battle. At JHS, he was team captain for cross country and swimming, drum major for the marching band, a National Honor Society member, a Science Olympiad member, and Eagle Scout. Ethan is remembered as a young man that anyone would be proud to know.

His parents say the scholarship honors his memory by helping future graduates for years to come, celebrating how Ethan lived his high school years to the fullest through learning, competing, making music, and building friendships.
