Tyson Foods Announces Shut Down of Nebraska Beef Facility

By Ryan King Nov 24, 2025 | 7:07 AM

Tyson Foods announced it will shut down operations at its beef facility in Lexington, Nebraska, and reduce its Amarillo, Texas, beef plant to a single, full-capacity shift, with production shifting to other Tyson beef facilities. The Lexington plant employs 3,000 workers and processes 5,000 cattle per day—about 4.8% of total U.S. daily beef slaughter.

Nebraska officials called the news “devastating,” emphasizing the resilience of the state’s cattle industry and workforce, noting that Tyson plans to increase capacity at other Nebraska plants and explore future value-added opportunities in the state. Tyson has not announced an official shutdown date.

Tyson operates major beef plants in Dakota City, Nebraska; Holcomb, Kansas; Hillsdale, Illinois; and Pasco, Washington, which are expected to absorb production increases following the reorganization.
