Road closures and no travel advisories remain in effect this morning across Southeastern North Dakota after a large winter storm swept through the area yesterday.

Snow totals topped eight inches in LaMoure and Lisbon, which had the highest reported totals in the state.  Edgeley received nearly 7 inches, as did some areas in the East-Central part of the state including Beulah and Killdeer.

Jamestown’s official totals haven’t been verified by the National Weather Service, but unofficial totals show between 2-4 inches depending on the area of the city.  The higher elevated southern part of the city received the most snowfall.

Driving conditions quickly deteriorated, with multiple-hour closure of I-94 affected afternoon and evening travel on Tuesday.  I-29 was first closed due to whiteout blizzard conditions and the closure continues this morning.  Closures also affected highways 11 and 13 in southeastern North Dakota east of the Oakes area.

Multiple crashes involving cars and snow plows were reported.  The Department of Transportation reminds drivers that emergency crews have priority and drivers are urged to slow down and give them space.  Driving on closed roads can lead to fines and other penalties.

The temperatures will remain in the low-to-mid 20s throughout the day, with conditions improving slightly this afternoon according the National Weather Service, which should allow for crews to clear and reopen dangerous roads in time for the pre-Thanksgiving travel this evening.
