Tyrque Jones, Hennepin County Jail

Fargo Police announced Wednesday that homicide suspect Tyrque Jones was arrested in Minneapolis, exactly four months after the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Azeem Holmes in downtown Fargo. The 20-year-old was arrested by the U.S. Marshals North Star Task Force in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Wednesday, December 3 at 12:09 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident, though he did attempt to give a fake name.

Jones is accused of involvement in the shooting of three individuals in downtown Fargo on August 3rd, 2025; one of these individuals, Azeem Holmes, was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident occurred outside of a nightclub called District 64. This incident was the first of two shootings that took place within 30 minutes of each other; the second shooting occurred in West Fargo at an apartment complex where 20-year-old Elijah Hughes was found dead with gunshot wounds. C’Aundre Douglas, 20, was arrested in Jamestown August 4th in connection with Hughes’ homicide. Fargo investigators indicated in a press conference that this shooting may have been in retaliation to the one 30 minutes earlier.

During a Wednesday press conference, Captain Matt Christensen said investigators looked for Jones across multiple states including North Dakota, Minnesota, and Arizona before recently learning of the Minneapolis residence where he was found. He said surveillance was conducted until they were able to confirm his presence there earlier Wednesday morning.

Two Fargo detectives are interviewing Jones at the Hennepin County Jail, and he will be extradited to Cass County to face homicide charges. Police are investigating who may have helped Jones evade capture for four months and will pursue charges against anyone who assisted him.

Holmes’ family has been notified of the arrest. The August 3rd shooting remains under active investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
