The FDA has conditionally approved Exzolt Cattle-CA1 a solution for preventing and treating New World screwworm infestations and controlling cattle fever ticks in certain classes of cattle.
The drug, produced by Intervet Inc., earned conditional approval by meeting FDA criteria for addressing a serious animal health threat and showing a reasonable expectation of effectiveness. It carries a 98-day slaughter withdrawal period and cannot be used in lactating dairy cows, veal calves, dairy calves, or breeding-age bulls.
The product is prescription-only and applied as a pour-on along the animal’s back.
This approval comes as part of a broader federal effort to prepare for and combat NWS and other livestock threats.
