North Dakota Farmers Effected by Hansen Mueller Co Bankruptcy

By Ryan King Dec 9, 2025 | 8:05 AM

An update to the bankruptcy filing by Nebraska-based grain dealer Hansen-Mueller Co. The company has left North Dakota farmers owed more than $900,000, with creditors spread across multiple states. The company filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 17 before North Dakota could initiate insolvency proceedings, which would have allowed the state to use Hansen-Mueller’s $778,000 grain buyer bond to help repay growers. Most of the affected sales involved oats, and many of the impacted farmers are in the Red River Valley.

North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring is urging all affected producers to file claims with the bankruptcy court, as many are already receiving notifications. Attorney David Barrett, who represents some of the farmers, said creditors are “everywhere,” with filings also coming from other states.
