The North Dakota Game & Fish Department is accepting registrations for its next hunting guide and outfitter exam.

The department said the exam for prospective guides and outfitters will be January 10 at 1 p.m. at its Bismarck office. Preregistration is open and ends January 2.

To qualify as a hunting guide, applicants must pass the exam and must also clear a background check, show proof of CPR and first-aid certification, and be employed by or under contract with a licensed outfitter. To qualify as a hunting outfitter, applicants must meet the guide requirements, have held a guide license for at least two years, and hold liability insurance.

Officials at the NDGAF also reminded residents that the exam is not a routine license renewal and is only for people seeking to become guides or outfitters in North Dakota.  The Department encourages anyone interested in pursuing that path to preregister soon by calling a local department office or visiting the Game & Fish website.
