North Dakota Farmers Union has a new president following a vote at its annual convention.

Delegates elected Matt Perdue as the next president during the organization’s 99th annual convention last week in Bismarck. Perdue becomes just the tenth president in the group’s history and, at 33 years old, the youngest to hold the position.

Perdue farms with his family near Ray, raising spring wheat, durum, canola, lentils and soybeans. He has previously worked with both North Dakota Farmers Union and the National Farmers Union, focusing on advocacy for family farmers and ranchers at the state and national levels.

Outgoing president Mark Watne did not seek reelection after serving twelve years. Perdue and his family divide their time between Jamestown and their farm in northwest North Dakota.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  A previous release from the NDFU incorrectly listed Perdue’s age as 35 years old.  We have corrected that in the updated version.
