Health officials are warning of an escalation in North Dakota’s measles outbreak, as the total number of confirmed cases climbed to 14 over the weekend.

The surge is located primarily in the northeast, with Pembina County reporting 12 cases, while single cases have been identified in Williams and Walsh counties. The outbreak is affecting a wide demographic, with half of the patients being young children under five and nearly half being adults over 20.

The public can find a list of exposure locations on North Dakota’s Health and Human Services measles dashboard. A 21 day quarantine from the date of exposure is reccomended for anyone who has not been vaccinated. Others should monitor for symptoms, which may include fever, runny nose, cough, red eyes and a rash.
