The North Dakota Monitor reports the state’s Democratic-NPL Party is experiencing increased momentum with more legislative candidates and higher convention interest than prior years.
Twelve Democratic candidates received endorsements in the Bismarck-Mandan area earlier this month, which is the most since 2016. The Monitor reports attendance at district conventions nearly quadrupled to about 300 people, with Democrats now fielding candidates in all but one regional district.
The Williston area endorsed three Democrats after having no candidates in 2022, according to the Monitor. Senator Tim Mathern says his Fargo district had its strongest turnout in a decade.
Republicans hold a 42-5 Senate and 83-11 House supermajority. Three Democrats are running for U.S. House, including Jamestown resident Helene Neville, but no Democrats have announced statewide campaigns yet. The Democratic state convention is March 6th-8th in Bismarck.
