The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a Grand Forks Air Force Base man was airlifted to a Fargo hospital Tuesday morning with serious injuries after his delivery van collided with a semi-truck on an ice-covered stretch of North Dakota Highway 18.
The crash, approximately eight miles east of Clifford (mile marker 108), occurred at 10:11 a.m. and resulted in the vehicles on opposite sides of the roadway, with the van coming to rest in the north ditch and the semi in the south ditch.
The 42-year-old semi driver from Larimore was reported as uninjured. The State Patrol confirmed that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Motorists in North Dakota should remain alert to rapidly changing road conditions. In recent regional weather summaries, officials report that lingering moisture from the February 18 winter storm has left several rural highways “slick in spots” with black ice particularly dangerous during morning hours.
