Stutsman County producers seek over $25M in aid; BND expands ag relief to $500M

Due to increased demand, the North Dakota Industrial Commission has authorized an additional $100 million for the 2026 Farm Financial Stability Program, bringing the total relief available to $500 million, making this the largest agricultural relief program in the Bank of North Dakota’s history.

This expansion comes as producers face a “fourfold storm” of low commodity prices, high input costs, extreme weather, and high interest rates, as reported by Jacob Orledge of the ND Monitor.

The program is designed to help producers restructure debt and secure cash flow for the 2026 planting season. Central and Eastern North Dakota have seen some of the highest demand for the program, with producers working through their local banks or credit unions to access the low-interest loans.

Stutsman County currently ranks among the top five counties for relief, with over $5 million already distributed and more than $20 million currently pending approval. Eddy and Foster Counties have also received support, with Foster County leading the state at $7.9 million already distributed. Walsh County has the highest number of pending requests with $55 million, followed closely by Grand Forks, Cass, and Pembina Counties.
