On March 21 at 8:09 p.m., a serious crash occurred on I-29 involving an impaired driver who fled the scene after rear-ending another vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Inside the struck vehicle was a family, including a young child properly secured in a car seat. Despite doing everything right, they were left dealing with injuries, fear, and the sudden loss of their vehicle, which was essential to their employment/income and daily life.
The driver responsible was later located and arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of an injury crash, with a preliminary breath test of .255.
This is the reality of impaired driving.
It is not just about poor decisions behind the wheel. It is about the lasting impact on others. A family now faces recovery, uncertainty, and hardship because someone chose to drive impaired.
No one plans to be the victim of a crash. But every impaired driver makes a choice that puts others at risk.
Make a plan before you go out. Use a sober driver. Call for a ride. Stay where you are.
One decision can change everything for someone else.
