Ultra-runner Noah Coughlan made a local stop as part of his transcontinental journey across America Thursday, crossing the 3,200-mile mark as he arrived in Jamestown after a grueling 35-mile trek from Valley City.
Coughlan is currently on a 5,500-mile solo run through 20 states, timed to finish on July 4, 2026, in celebration of the United States’ 250th anniversary.
Thursday marked Day 160 of Coughlan’s 260-day mission. Upon reaching Jamestown, he officially surpassed 3,200 miles, with 2,300 miles to go before his July deadline.
The leg into Jamestown was challenging, with Coughlan describing it as a “compounded wind battle.” The runner faced cold temperatures and the physical “wall of air” created by high-speed semi-trucks passing on the highway, requiring him to brace his body against the impact to stay on course.
While in town, Coughlan shared a rare meeting with his predecessor, Helene Neville, the only woman and second person ever to run across all 50 states. Neville, advising Coughlan on his upcoming Alaska segment, joined him for an interview with the Jamestown Sun.
Coughlan expressed gratitude to the community for their hospitality, including a fuel-up meal from the Buffalo Grill as he prepares to continue his journey.
