The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) recently launched the Green Fertilizer Grant Program, an initiative to promote sustainable agriculture by supporting local production of environmentally friendly fertilizers.

Announced by MDA Commissioner Thom Petersen, the program offers grants ranging from $250,000 to $6.6 Million for agricultural and rural electric cooperatives in Minnesota.

These grants will fund projects that utilize renewable energy sources, such as wind or solar power, and produce green nitrogen-based fertilizers, which significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional methods. Applications open on December 18, 2024, and close on March 18, 2025.
