Former North Dakota governor Doug Burgum opened his senate hearing yesterday with a statement about energy production in the United States.
Burgum is hoping to lead the Department of Interior and said that when energy production is restricted in America, demand is not reduced. As a result, opposing countries drive revenue from energy sales and may use these funds against the United States and its allies. If Burgum is at the head, he would manage millions of acres of land and oversee an $18 billion dollar budget. Democratic Senators pushed back on Burgum, questioning his close relationships with oil executives.
Confirmation for Burgum could be as early as next week.
