Cargill Inc. has agreed to a $32.5 million settlement in a class-action lawsuit alleging price-fixing in the turkey industry.
The case, filed in 2019, accuses major turkey producers, including Butterball, Hormel, and Perdue Farms, of colluding to suppress competition and manipulate supply and prices through shared information.
Agri Stats, a data-sharing company, is also implicated for facilitating these practices, which have sparked similar lawsuits in the poultry and pork industries.
Combined with Tyson Foods’ $4.6 million settlement in 2022, the total settlements in the cases now amount to $37.13 million.
The settlement process will take about six months to finalize.
