A rural catalyst committee and grant program would form to support North Dakota towns of 8,500 or less if Senate Bill 2390 passes through the legislature.

The bill was amended and was given a do-pass recommendation by the Agriculture and Veterans Affairs Committee on Friday. North Dakota’s Department of Commerce would support the committee, and funds would be awarded to projects that support things from education and health to economic development.

The bill proposes funds of $30 million. The committee also added an amendment to the bill that states 50% of the catalyst funds would be designated to towns of fewer than 1,000 people.
