North Dakota Governor Kelly Armstrong has issued a 30-day waiver on hours of service requirements for commercial drivers transporting propane and petroleum products to fuel heat shortages. Extreme cold temperatures in Bismarck at nearly 40 below zero, high heating demands and severe weather have strained fuel supplies, posing risks to public safety.
The executive order allows fuel carriers to operate longer hours to prevent supply disruptions and ensure residents have access to essential heating resources.
While the waiver helps expedite deliveries, all road safety and vehicle compliance regulations remain in place. State officials continue to monitor the situation to balance fuel availability with transportation safety.
