As first reported by the Jamestown Sun, Jamestown Public School Board is choosing between two boundary options for the 2025-26 school year, following Washington Elementary’s closure. The February 17 school board meeting approved the plan, tasking the committee with a boundary study to decide how to rezone the schools. Phase 1A would affect 151 students, while Phase 1B would impact 223 students. The decision comes as the district reduces from five to four elementary schools to prevent fund depletion within the next 5 years. Enrollment is projected to decline by 85 students in that time, however, there are possible future plans for a new school pending voter approval.
I just read this about Washington School closing & this made me very upset and mad.
I went to this school growing up and my 2 grandkids also went to this school before they moved.
Washington School was an amazing school and all the teachers and the principal and the cooks were AMAZING!! I do understand why they wanted to close it but I feel that they could have figured something else out and tried something before they closed it.
There is a lot of people very upset about this situation because they’re kids went to Washington School and IT’S AMAZING SCHOOL!! They even put a benefit on to help keep the school open and like I said the board should have tried a little bit harder to keep the school open. Now they are thinking about in the near future of building a new school, really then they should of kept Washington School open and figured something out!!
THIS IS AWFUL SITUATION!!
