Each year, there are reports of serious accidents on the farm, the top two culprits being tractors and grain bins. In 2021, there were 133 fatal agricultural worker injuries, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. To address this, the Winter Show in Valley City hosted the “Stop the Bleed” project on Thursday, which is an effort to teach farm families and employees steps to stop bleeding in the case of these accidents. NDSU Nursing and NDSU Extension put together a class teaching tourniquet techniques that can buy some time when someone is in trouble. In rural areas that are many miles away from a hospital, it is vital to employ strategies that prevent someone from bleeding out in several minutes.
