During a recent appearance on Friday Night Takeover with Rob + Holly, Jordan Davis opened up about the origin stories of some of his songs. The country star shared the backstory of his 2017 smash hit, “Singles You Up,” which was written with Steven Dale Jones and Justin Ebach. “Justin had just gotten engaged, and we’re like, ‘Dude, you were smart not to single her up,’” Davis recalls. “And then the second he said that I was like, ‘Whoa, that’s a killer idea.'” But while the initial concept intrigued him, Davis wasn’t convinced that he had a hit on his hands. “We wrote it and I called Kris [O’Connor, his wife] on the way home, and I was like, ‘Yeah, we just wrote a song. It’s either really good or really dumb,’” Davis explained. “And she was like, ‘What’s it called?’ And I was like, ‘Singles you up,’ and she was like, ‘I don’t know, that sounds like a dumb one.'” It ended up being Davis’ debut single, and was featured on his 2018 album, Home State, and went on to be a No. 1 hit on the US Country Airplay chart.
