As first reported by the Jamestown Sun, about 90 people marched through downtown Jamestown yesterday to protest federal program cuts and support working families. Starting at St. John’s Lutheran Church and proceeding to Hugo’s Family Marketplace, demonstrators expressed concerns about how Trump administration policies affect roughly 100 local families employed by federal agencies like the USDA, Postal Service, and Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center. Protesters voiced worries about worker rights, environmental policy changes, threats to education and Medicaid, and the rapid pace of government cutbacks. Organizer Barb Lang from the League of Women Voters advocated for the support of local federal employees, while other participants highlighted concerns about living wages and impacts on farmers and immigrant families. The Jamestown event was part of nationwide May Day demonstrations recognizing International Labor Day.
