As first reported by KVRR, an 83-year-old woman from Aneta, North Dakota was killed Monday afternoon in a head-on collision on Interstate 29 approximately two miles north of Thompson. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the woman was driving an SUV southbound in the northbound lanes when she collided with a pickup truck shortly after 1 p.m. The pickup’s driver, a 42-year-old Grand Forks man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Altru Hospital by ambulance. Emergency responders included Thompson Fire-Rescue, Altru Ambulance, Grand Forks County deputies, and the Highway Patrol. The northbound lanes remained closed for about two hours while authorities investigated and cleared the crash scene.
