US Senate to Review Budget Reconciliation Bill, Concerns Amounting

By Ryan King Jun 3, 2025 | 7:30 AM

The U.S. Senate is reviewing the budget reconciliation bill that includes nearly $30 billion in farm safety net improvements over 10 years, but commodity support is uneven. While crops like rice, peanuts, and cotton would see significant per-acre gains, corn and soybean farmers would see modest increases of just $5 to $9 per acre.

The National Corn Growers Association has voiced concern over a new price floor cap for corn that could reduce payments by $3.7 billion, further limiting support for the crops that cover the largest share of U.S. farmland.

The bill also includes limited crop insurance improvements, focusing on basic and optional units rather than the enterprise units used widely in the Midwest, meaning most corn and soybean producers would see little benefit.
