President Donald Trump announced major trade agreements with Japan and Indonesia, both focused on boosting U.S. exports and job creation. The deal with Japan includes opening Japanese markets further to American agricultural products like rice, which was praised by USA Rice for enhancing access to one of their top export markets. This marks the first significant rice trade expansion with Japan since the 1990s.
In a separate agreement, Trump also revealed a trade deal with Indonesia aimed at eliminating 99% of tariff barriers on U.S. industrial and agricultural products. In return, Indonesia will pay a 19% tariff on goods exported to the U.S. and commit to purchasing American products, including Boeing aircraft and energy resources.
U.S. Wheat Associates and the U.S. Meat Export Federation expressed strong support for the deal, noting it will dramatically expand wheat and meat export opportunities by removing long-standing trade barriers and meeting growing Indonesian demand for U.S. goods.
