Breeding mosquitos have led to dense populations across southeastern North Dakota this week.
Fogging was completed in the Northwest and Northeast parts of Jamestown last night. Spraying will begin in the Southwest and Southeast parts of the city tonight at 9:00 p.m., with fogging continuing through the overnight hours as necessary until finished.
Extremely dense populations of mosquitoes have been reported at the Jamestown Reservoir and Pipestem Lake areas, with visible swarm-clouds blanketing areas of the receding shoreline. The heavy rainfalls from storms this summer led to very wet grasslands and high river and lake beds. The now-receding watersheds exposing wet soil have led to the perfect conditions for rapid mosquito breeding.
People are advised to use mosquito repellent containing Deet when remaining outdoors.
With fogging crews out tonight, Jamestown residents are reminded to keep pets indoors during those times, and people should avoid areas of the city where fogging crews are working.
