After two straight disappointing seasons, of missing the playoffs and completely collapsing, enough was enough and the Twins have decided to make a change to the team after ownership said earlier in the season they want to be winners with a winning culture.
The Twins announced on Monday afternoon that Manager Rocco Baldelli will be relieved of his duties after the Twins finished 70-92 during the 2025 season, missing the postseason for a second straight year after being favorited to win the division.
Baldelli had managed the team for seven seasons, and brought home 3 AL Central Titles. He also won the 2019 Manager of the year award, and finished his Twins career with a record of 527-505. That mark in wins adds up to 3rd all time in Minnesota Twins history behind Tom Kelly, and Ron Gardenhire, with the Washington Senators excluded.
For two years, Twins fans called for change to the team, and one of the first changes wanted to be made was a change of manager. The Twins stuck to their guns this season keeping Baldelli, while also at the time promising he would be back in 2026. After finishing with the second to worst record in the league after the All-Star break, enough was enough, and the Twins will be looking for a new manager before they start the 2026 season.
Will this be the first of many moves in the shift in change that Twins ownership has hinted at these last couple of months? It was a dark day in Twins territory when ownership announced that they would not be selling the team, and instead will start to focus on being a winning organization with a winning culture. Can the Twins bring in a Manager that is from a winning organization and knows what it takes to be a winner and a contender? Questions to be answered during the offseason.
