The National Weather Service has now confirmed 20 individual tornadoes touched down across central North Dakota on September 14th, with the total still climbing as reports are analyzed. Storm survey teams confirmed EF-2 damage near Denhoff where a large outbuilding was destroyed and a trailer home rolled, and near Beaver Bay west of Linton where a barn was destroyed. EF-1 damage was found near Mercer and Menoken. The unusual late-season outbreak, which saw tornadoes move south to north, pushed North Dakota’s 2025 total to 80 confirmed tornadoes, shattering the previous record of sixty-one set in 1999. 25 tornado warnings in September also set a monthly record. The outbreak also produced 3-4 inches of rain in two to three hours, causing multiple road closures in Bismarck.
