The city of Wishek is marking a major milestone as Sauerkraut Day celebrates its 100th anniversary beginning tomorrow.
The three-day festival will run Friday through Sunday with food, music, and old-fashioned fun. Events are spread throughout the community — from the Wishek Civic Center and Danke Acres, to local churches, businesses, and the public school.
The heart of the celebration is Friday’s free sauerkraut meal beginning at 11:00 a.m., a tradition dating back to 1925. Visitors can also enjoy car and tractor shows, accordion music, bingo, beer tasting, and a pie social.
This year’s centennial theme features a special photo exhibit highlighting the event’s long history and the generations who’ve kept it alive.
Organizers say the festival remains a symbol of community pride and German-Russian heritage. More details and daily schedules are posted at Wishek-ND.com and on the city’s Facebook page.
