North Dakota Dept. of Agriculture Offering Butterfly Kits in Classrooms

By Ryan King Oct 15, 2025 | 7:44 AM

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program are inviting first- through third-grade educators to apply for butterfly pollinator kits designed to teach young students about butterflies and their vital role in agriculture. Each kit includes lesson plans, a butterfly-growing kit, and a book on butterflies. Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring encouraged educators to participate, noting that butterflies are among the top pollinators and essential to maintaining a healthy food supply.

Through these interactive lessons, students can watch caterpillars transform into butterflies while learning about pollination, life cycles, and environmental stewardship. The program aims to blend science and agriculture education in a fun interactive way. Educators can apply for kits at ndda.nd.gov through November 14, 2025, with kits distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
