First- to third-grade teachers across North Dakota are being encouraged to apply for worm soil conservation kits offered by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota Ag in the Classroom Program. The kits aim to help young students understand the importance of worms in maintaining healthy soil and supporting plant growth.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring said the program is a fun and educational way to bring agriculture into classrooms while teaching students about worms’ vital role in soil health.
Each kit includes hands-on learning materials such as a worm farm, a related book, and lesson plans. Educators have until April 1, to use the kits and complete follow-up surveys, but supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications close on November 14, 2025, and can be found at ndda.nd.gov.
