A former Devils Lake police officer who shot himself during a September standoff now faces seven additional criminal charges including gross sexual imposition, child endangerment, and stalking. Rey Hennen, initially charged with terrorizing and reckless endangerment after the September 9th incident, now faces allegations dating back to 2019. Court documents say Hennen held his 11-month-old baby while threatening suicide with a gun to his head before shooting himself in the ear. The most serious charge, gross sexual imposition by force, carries a potential life sentence. Additional charges include child neglect, burglary, stalking using AirTag devices, and providing false information to law enforcement. The case involves 61 potential witnesses and multiple law enforcement agencies. Hennen faces maximum penalties of life imprisonment on the sexual assault charge. The North Dakota Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.
