By Payton Gall Dec 9, 2025 | 4:02 PM

The National Weather Service warns of very difficult travel conditions today into tonight due to snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and gusty winds across North Dakota.

A high wind warning is in effect for Stutsman County and most of the state until early Wednesday morning, with gusts reaching 50 to 65 miles per hour. Grand Forks has already received 4 inches of snow as of 2 p.m., with steady snowfall continuing in northeast North Dakota. The Turtle Mountains area expects 1 to 4 inches through tonight.

Lingering freezing rain will transition to rain and snow this afternoon across eastern areas. Another round of snow impacts western and central North Dakota Wednesday afternoon through Thursday night. A winter weather advisory remains in place statewide ahead of the system.

Dangerous cold arrives later this week with below-average temperatures, and an 80% chance of wind chills dropping to 30 below zero or colder Thursday evening through Saturday morning. Authorities urge avoiding travel if possible due to hazardous conditions.
