A thriving local economy is driven by an emphasis on keeping dollars close to home–which is why Jamestown leaders created a program to reward people for shopping local. The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce is celebrating a record-breaking holiday season after its “Loyal to Local” program tracked more than a quarter-million dollars in community spending.
More than one thousand passports were submitted this year, documenting nearly 277,000 dollars spent at 83 local businesses, according to a Chamber press release. Participants were challenged to spend at least $250 per passport to qualify for over $10,000 in donated prizes.
Chamber Director Emily Bivens says the true economic impact is likely even higher, as many shoppers spent more than what was recorded on their forms. She credits the program’s success to a community that prioritizes keeping dollars local.
