The Jamestown Public School Board voted unanimously Monday to accept the resignation of an elementary school teacher currently facing felony charges for sexual abuse of a minor.
As first reported by the Jamestown Sun, Michael Paul Romans, 45, was a teacher at Gussner Elementary and a volunteer firefighter before his arrest. He is charged with corruption or solicitation of a minor, a Class C felony. According to court documents, the victim, who babysat for Romans and was later tutored by him, alleged the sexual abuse occurred between 2014 and 2017 while she was sixteen and seventeen years old.
Romans remains in custody at the Stutsman County Correctional Center held on $50,000 bond. If convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years of supervised probation and up to five years in prison.
