Freezing rain and icy roads led to a serious T-bone collision involving a semi-truck and a pickup west of Powers Lake Saturday evening.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 56-year-old Powers Lake man was seriously injured when his Chevy pickup lost control on Highway 50 and crossed into the path of an oncoming Kenworth semi. The 54-year-old semi driver from Idaho sustained minor injuries in the crash.
Authorities confirmed that neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The crash occurred as much of western North Dakota experienced a wave of freezing rain that left rural highways slick and dangerous.
