Snow expected in North Dakota today

The National Weather Service in Bismarck has issued a fresh update as a winter system pushes through the region, bringing a steady blanket of snow to much of North Dakota.

Forecasters expect the heaviest accumulations between 1 to 4 inches to fall along and east of the Missouri River, including the James River Valley. While most of the state is seeing light, steady snow, meteorologists are watching for “mesoscale banding,” which could drop up to 6 inches in localized pockets.

Further west, the concern shifts to a “mixed bag” of precipitation. Freezing rain and drizzle are possible along the Highway 85 corridor, creating slick spots through Watford City and south into Stark County.
