Today is the anniversary of The Day the Music Died, and in remembrance of that, the North Dakota Music Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Induction Class. Today, Feb. 3, through May 15, people can submit names that represent North Dakota’s music scene, whether that be legendary musicians, educators, or industry professionals.
February 3rd weighs heavy on the history of the music industry, and our state. On this date, a 1959 plane crash claimed the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. This date also marks the moment a Fargo 15-year-old named Bobby Vee stepped up and took the stage in Moorhead, which kickstarted his acclaimed career.
The NDMHOF Board chose this date because it represents the resilience and talent represented here in North Dakota. They are seeking the next class of legends that have dedicated their lives to the craft.
Nominees must have been born in ND, lived in ND while active in the music industry, or have been married to a ND resident during their career. They must have 20 years of experience. They also must fit into these four categories: Musicians, Duos, and Groups, Music Educators, Songwriters, and Music Industry Contributors (Producers, radio personalities, publicists, promoters).
Nominations can be submitted at ndmusichall.com. The 2026 Induction Class will be honored during the Dakota Music Crawl & Induction Ceremony this September.
