JRMC Hosts Blood Drive, Supplies Tighten across Region

By Seth Dunlap Apr 8, 2026 | 6:01 AM

Jamestown Regional Medical Center says 32 donors turned out for its latest community blood drive, held in March and April.

Hospital officials say blood collected through those drives supports patients undergoing surgery, receiving cancer treatment and recovering from serious injuries.  JRMC officials say the blood will immediately go towards life saving care.

The Jamestown drive comes as blood providers continue to warn that supplies can tighten quickly. The American Red Cross said in January its national blood supply had dropped about 35% in a month with type O, A-negative and B-negative blood under particular strain. In the eastern North Dakota to western Minnesota region tracked by the Red Cross there are about 250,000 blood donations each year, but officials say that hasn’t been enough to keep up with increasing demand.
