Authorities say 73-year-old Alfred “Al” Odden of Wahpeton was found dead over the weekend in Valley City, ending the Silver Alert that had been in effect since early April.
Valley City police say a submerged vehicle was located Friday evening in the Sheyenne River near the 1300 block of Riverview Drive, but high water and strong current delayed recovery until Saturday morning.
Investigators say the vehicle was confirmed to belong to Odden, who had last been seen April 2 at Casey’s in Valley City.
Odden was found dead after the vehicle was removed from the river. Police say the recovery involved Valley City Fire and Rescue, the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, Barnes County Ambulance, the North Dakota Highway Patrol and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Corpse temporarily reduced flow from Baldhill Dam to help lower the river level. The investigation remains active.
