Dave Glatt, North Dakota’s first and only director of the Department of Environmental Quality, has announced his retirement, according to a press release from the Governor’s Office.
Glatt has held several roles in state government for 43 years, spending the last seven at the top of the Department of Environmental Quality.
Former Gov. Doug Burgum appointed Glatt in 2019 when the department became standalone as it was separated from the Department of Health.
The department is authorized to employ 175 people full time and has a budget of $141.8 million to regulate things like air and water quality.
Glatt was key in the effort to implement the Safe Drinking Water Act in North Dakota, and Governor Armstrong praised him in the press release for his work and approach to regulation throughout his career.
