Strong winds will continue Tuesday with a Reg Flag Warning in effect across the region.
Meteorologists at the National Weather Service expect sustained wind speeds over 30 mph and gusts approaching 50 mph in the Carrington and Ashley areas. That will make fire danger even more hazardous than yesterday, with fire danger will be most critical in the James River Valley today.
Low humidity continues to exacerbate dangerous fire conditions, and the dry air is expected to continue through the week. High winds and more possible Red Flag warnings can be expected through early next week, with forecasters expecting a sustained high-wind period for Jamestown and the surrounding areas.
Rain showers may bring small amounts of precipitation to the area on Thursday, and the weekend is now looking less warm than forecasters initially predicted, with highs possibly approaching 80 in parts of southeastern North Dakota.
Items outdoors should be secured and pets moved inside during this hazardous weather period. Outdoor burns are not advised and could be extremely dangerous.
